Going through the Lagos fashion and design week 2017 (lfdw) photos on Instagram, I saw lots of street style outfits that didn’t exactly standout because they were missing fashion accessories.
I also saw some outfits that stood out mostly because of the fashion accessories. Regular denim outfits that might not really get your attention on a normal day. It made me happy that people are embracing the effortless fashion week looks just by adding eye-catching fashion accessories.
One doesn’t actually need a lot of pieces in one outfit or designer items to stand out during fashion weeks. Especially in this Nigeria with hot weather where we can’t throw on the signature fashion week trench coats like our foreign counterparts. I believe one needs just 1 or 2 fashion items to show they know what they’re doing.
I’ve never attended any fashion week but I hope to attend someday especially the LFDW that is closer to home. Perhaps “I don’t understand the pressure to get noticed by streetstyle photographers or Bellanaija style” but I’ll definitely want to be comfortable in whatever outfit I’m wearing.
The secret to getting noticed during fashion week without breaking the bank. Click To TweetRecently, I found out that a lot of Nigerian brands lend their pieces to popular people, celebrities or bloggers to wear to red carpet events. I knew about this for foreign brands but not Nigerian brands. I’ve been living under the rock, i know!
So, which brand is interested in lending me clothes to wear for red carpet events? Shop Maju, Omilua (recently discovered) or perhaps StyleTemple (located 2 buildings away from where I live in maitama).
P.S. these are some of the Nigerian fashion brands I’ll like to collaborate with. They have lovely pieces that I can rock head to toe.
If you’re not interested in breaking the bank, borrowing from a brand or staying home for fear of not standing out during fashion week, these fashion accessories will definitely help get you noticed.
Fashion Accessories You’ll Need For Fashion Week
Irregular Eyeglasses/Sunglasses: Sunglasses ought to be one of your 1st fashion accessories. They not only have a way of switching your look from 0-100 real quick, they’ll protect your eyes from the sun. Unusual frames will surely get you noticed. With the rise of clear non prescription eyeglasses, they’re fast becoming the go-to outfit ‘completer’.
Unusual Hat/Cap: Everyone runs to the fedora hat or beret most times to enhance their fashion week outfits. The fedora hat has become regular in my eyes and I’m sure it will be same for other people. Try a different style, it could be a fez cap, a pillbox hat or whichever type you can find.
Gigantic Bag: Bag it with style! Imagine wearing a regular pair of mom jeans and tee and carrying this gigantic balenciaga bazar bag. Ofcourse you’ll get noticed and it will definitely switch up your look.
Afro/Big Hair: Big hair, don’t care! You can take the biggest Afro wig you can find if your hair isn’t full enough and wear it with any regular outfit and get noticed.
Here's a quick way to fix up your fashion week outfits if you're on a budget. Click To TweetStatement Neckpiece: If you place a chunky statement neckpiece over a casual plain tee, you’ve accentuated that tee. That might be all you need to get noticed by a street style photographer in love with details.
If you’re not interested in fashion week outfits, these fashion accessories will up your fashion game regardless. I’ve also discussed particular fashion accessories that can instantly update your closet on the blog previously.
Fear of fashion week outfits? Not if you use fashion accessories the right way! Click To TweetDon’t worry if you have missed the lagos fashion and design week (lfdw) already and you’re living in Nigeria, there’s still GTBank’s fashion weekend coming up next month in Lagos, Nigeria. If you live outside Nigeria, look out for the next fashion week near you to put these tips to practice. As for me, my job is preventing from attending this year.
Such gorgeous looks and accessories! Thank you for sharing!

What a great and inspiration style post. I have always believed that accessories can make or break an outfit and I follow my own rule 100% of the time. Fashion definitely is better because of accessories!
